HIIT is all the hype lately. According to a survey conducted by The American College of Sports Medicine, it holds steady among the top fitness trends for 2017. So what’s this type of training all about? What is it with HIIT that people love so much?

HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a training technique in which you give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time.

What are the benefits of HIIT Training?

Increases Your Metabolism

Combing high intensity with interval training results in EPOC, which speeds your metabolic rate and translates into a metabolism boost for up to 48 hours after a complete HIIT routine. This means you’ll still be burning fat even after you’ve left the gym.

Quick and Convenient

Long gone are the days of not having enough time for exercise. HIIT workouts can be done anywhere: in a class, at home, in a hotel room, in a park, at the beach, etc. And most are 30 minutes or less! Who can’t spare that?

It can be variable and fun!

In a HIIT class you can use an abundance of different exercise methods and equipment. If you are someone who enjoys variety, this form of exercise helps to keep you motivated and inspired to complete the workout. Furthermore, it keeps your motivation high for longer periods of time, resulting in you getting closer to achieving your goals.

So how is SPC HIIT any different to other classes??

Harry combines a mixture of strength training, tried and tested conditioning methods plus bodyweight exercises to create the ultimate class that pushes you and your fitness to the next level. He takes inspiration from Crossfit style workouts and his experience training athletes from multiple sport disciplines.

Each workout can be scaled to suit the fitness level of each individual – all we ask is that you are willing to work hard and challenge yourself.

At SPC, we are able to use the many different pieces of fitness equipment we have, ranging from tyres and sleds, to barbells and dumbbells, with some ski-erg, assault bike and rower intervals chucked in for good measure. Not only does our class use the SPC facility, we also use our fully equipped outdoor area and the surrounding grounds of Worthing College. Disclosure: we sometimes include running (sorry!).
